The Craving
Brandie Trent
The empty page winks and flirt
beckoning the poet --
She is silently screaming seduction;
the lace of her margin ruffled,
revealing pure white --
Her gorgeous blue lines are respectable --
Straight. Narrow.
They mock.
The poet chews his bottom lip
considering her offer --
to listen to his message
to carry his heart's ache
to let him fill her up ...
She is locked in on him, staring now.
And he thinks he's being a gentleman
refusing to soil or smudge her,
but he knows that's what she wants --
and he is afraid.
